How We Build People, Not Change Them

We are not in the business of changing who someone is.

Trying to change a person, their nature, how they think, how they naturally operate, is an uphill battle that costs enormous energy and rarely sticks. Most of the time it doesn’t stick because it’s going against the grain of who that person actually is. The change feels forced because it is.

That’s not how we build our own team, and it’s not what we bring to clients either.

The approach starts with evaluation. What is this person already good at? What’s working right now, without anyone pushing it? Where do they move naturally and effectively?

From there, we amplify. Continuously. The goal is to grow the strengths until the gap between what someone’s great at and what they’re not becomes wide enough that the weaknesses stop being the bottleneck. The weaknesses don’t disappear. They just become comparatively minor. Someone performing at 80 percent strength and 20 percent weakness isn’t defined by the 20 anymore.

This applies to how we hire, how we coach, how roles get built around the people already in them. It applies to every client we bring this to. Same principle, same direction.

Building with the grain isn’t the easy path. It takes actually looking at what’s there before deciding what to do with it. It’s the path that holds anyway.
